Welcome to GataGlass!

My name is Rachel, and I work with Borosilicate glass tubing on a GTT Scorpion torch.
I began glass exploration in 2019 during Covid19 Lockdown.
It was then, that I had the luxury to reassess my creative ambitions, and the time to learn a new medium. I live in Eureka California, where glass blowing is relatively thriving, thanks to the marble scene that seems to be sweeping the entire globe.
Exciting time to be a glass artist!

EXPLORING   Creative   depths   A   lasting   journey

Slow and steady

Glass is a medium you simply can not rush. From regulators to eye protection, it's imperative that you do all the many things right. For me, flame-working was a serious decision.

To work with glass has been a long-seeded desire, but the opportunity eluded me, until a few young glassblowers at Glass Garage, encouraged me to step in and try the torch!

At first,  I was intimidated to put it mildly. Being 62...I figured I was too old, my reflexes past their prime. Quickly, I came to my senses and realized it was literally now or never! It was love at first try!

Glass Garage demonstrated how to start and what to practice.
Graciously, they were available to demonstrate tricks of the trade and share advice.
It wasn't long before my husband, Stock, recognized my  passion, and built for me a beautiful home studio. A true labor of love. I pinch myself everyday!

At this point, I  take liberties in calling myself a glass artist. No disrespect to those true artists, who have spent ample time perfecting their craft. That said, no art degree is necessary to follow your creative passions, educate yourself and work intuitively.
Shout out to more people than I can mention here. Thank you, to my husband Stock, for your loving support and for making me the best glass studio an aspiring glass artist could wish for. So much love, to all at Glass Garage for getting me started and keeping me awe struck and inspired!
